Dear Parents, Carers and Students
It has been a quieter week at AHS as we focus our support for Year 13 during their mock exams, which come to an end today. Well done to all our Year 13 students for approaching these assessments with such strength and confidence. We know this is a demanding time, and we are incredibly proud of the resilience and dedication they have shown.
We would like to extend a huge congratulations to our Year 12 students who stepped up to the British Physics Olympiad Challenge this week; your dedication to the subject is fantastic to see. Looking ahead, the physics department is also preparing for an exciting guest visit in March as seen below. This is a special talk that I am sure our aspiring scientists will not want to miss!
It has been an equally high-energy week for sports; please see the highlights below from our PE Department for a full roundup.
Small note to all that we have a non-uniform day coming up on 13th February! You can find all the specific details in the poster to the right.
As always, I want to thank all the staff, parents, and carers who continue to support our students in these wonderful opportunities. Your dedication and encouragement make all the difference.
Last Week
Hockey
The U14 Hockey team travelled to Marlow Hockey Club last week for a fixture against Sir William Borlase's Grammar School. While the final score read 3-0 to the hosts, it did not reflect the true balance of play in what was an even matchup, facing not only a strong opponent but also less-than-ideal weather conditions.
This Week
Cricket
The U13 Cricket team competed in the first round of the Indoor Cricket County competition. Facing a field of very strong teams, including the eventual winners Beachborough and runners-up Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School, the squad played with impressive focus and determination throughout the day. Although the team did not progress to the next round, the players held their own against tough opposition and enjoyed a fantastic day of cricket.
Hockey
The U16 Hockey team played against Chesham Grammar School and Dr Challoner's High School. We won 2-0 vs CGS and drew 2-2 vs DCHS. The team were full of motivation and togetherness, what a joy, well done girls.
The U13 Hockey team traveled to Beaconsfield High School this week to compete in the highly competitive County Tournament. It was a busy day of fixtures, and thankfully the weather stayed dry, allowing for some fast-paced hockey. The team finished the day with three hard-fought draws and three losses. Every player worked tirelessly for the team, maintaining high energy levels across all matches.

Last week, 9 of our A level physicists took part in the first of the Y12 challenges this year. I am pleased to say that everyone achieved at least a bronze certificate, while 2 achieved a silver and we had a very impressive gold score from Amirah! I hope that at least some of them, maybe along with some of the others, will also attempt the written problem solving challenge in early March.
We were also pleased to hear that Nitya in Year 10 has been accepted onto the Uncover Engineering for Girls residential programme hosted at St Hugh's College, Oxford in the Easter holidays. This should be an amazing experience for her!
In other Physics news, we are looking forward to hosting astronaut Chris Sembroski on Friday 6th March when Year 9 and sixth form physicists, along with any other interested students who are free, will hear all about his exploits in space. We also have 2 STEM speakers visiting at lunch just before half term, a biophysicist working in the cancer research world along with a mathematical physicist - supersymmetry anyone?

Last term, schools from around the world took part in ITZA's week-long WWF Global Challenge. AHS came 4th in the UK. We achieved an aggregate score of 21,500 (The top school in the UK reached the international final with 27,300 points, so we are looking forward to growing the team and making the final next year!). Thanks to all who participated.

We would like to remind parents to be thoughtful when collecting students from School. We were deeply concerned to receive a report that a driver was verbally abusive toward a local resident. As a school community, we expect a high standard of respect and courtesy toward our neighbors at all times. Please be mindful to our neighbors when parking near the school. Keep driveways clear and park thoughtfully, switching engines off and not blocking pavements or private roads or drives. Thank you for your cooperation and for helping to keep the surrounding area safe for all users.
