Dear Parents, Carers, and Students
This week’s newsletter is a shorter update to keep you informed of the positive progress being made across the School. It is wonderful to see how seamlessly our students have settled back into the rhythm of school life following the holiday break. I recognise that transitioning back to a full schedule can be a challenge, and I am genuinely impressed by the enthusiasm and curiosity they have shown in both their academic studies and extracurricular pursuits.
This has been a productive week at the school. Our Year 11 students have been working with focus through their mock exams, demonstrating admirable resilience and a clear commitment to their progress. As their assessments conclude, next week we extend our very best wishes to our Year 13 students, who are set to begin their own mock exams.
As mentioned last week, whilst we understand that this period can be a source of pressure, it is important to remember that these exams are a constructive stepping stone rather than a final result. They offer an invaluable opportunity for students to identify specific areas for growth, refine their revision strategies, and build the necessary confidence for their upcoming examinations. We encourage every student to maintain a growth mindset, prioritising the lessons learned through the process over the marks themselves. Please remember that your teachers and the entire school staff are here to guide you; do not hesitate to reach out if you require any support or have questions.
The first week of our Year 8 residential trip to Aberdyfi has been a resounding success! Our students have truly embraced the challenge, diving into an action-packed outward-bound course that has served as a powerful catalyst for curious engagement, selfless generosity and resilient bravery. I have received glowing reports praising their determination and "can-do" spirit and we are excited to see the momentum continue as more Year 8 classes embark on this adventure next week.
Swimming
Our Junior and Inter B and C Swim teams took part in the Wycombe League Gala this week.
Faced with last-minute illnesses and injuries, the squads stepped up to cover for one another, proving that the team comes first. In a massively competitive league, our swimmers brought home a bag full of 2nd place finishes!
Proud of the resilience, the support, and the results. Well done, team!
Special mention to Bea and Gina.
Netball
The U18 Netball team won their match 28-10, against the Royal Grammar School this week. Well done all.

A huge congratulations to Shona in 7W for an outstanding performance at the Buckinghamshire County Cross Country Championships this past Saturday!
Competing against the top runners in the county, Shona secured an impressive 2nd place finish. This silver-medal performance has earned a well-deserved spot in the Inter-Counties XC Championships this March. We are incredibly proud of this achievement and look forward to cheering her in March!

As children grow older, they often become less likely to share when they encounter something worrying online. Many parents can feel out of their depth about protecting their children from online dangers, but there are some really good tips in this presentation from the London Grid for Learning and an interesting perspective from the Children's Commissioner on what young people want you to know.

Our students have had an incredible start to their week at the Outward Bound Trust in Aberdyfi. After arriving on Monday and diving straight into the experience—including a chilly dip in the estuary—everyone has fully embraced the spirit of adventure.
The groups have been busy with team-building games, orienteering, and preparing for the challenges ahead. A major highlight has been the overnight expeditions, where students navigated forest trails under starlit skies to reach remote log cabins. From summiting local mountains and gorge walking to canoeing and abseiling, the students are showing fantastic resilience and teamwork. Everyone is doing themselves proud, and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the trip brings!

This week’s wellbeing focus: Winter can feel tough — short days and cold weather can impact mood. Samaritans’ Brew Monday (third Monday in January) encourages us all to check in with one another over a cuppa or even a hot chocolate and a chat. Taking time to connect with friends/family, noticing how we’re feeling and encouraging our young people to do the same can have a positive effect on mood and social wellbeing. Connection and conversation can help reduce stress and make young people feel seen and supported.
➤ Tip for parents: Arrange a family or friend catch-up this week and take 10 minutes to talk about how everyone is feeling — even small conversations matter. Ask your child what they’re grateful for this week and share one of your own.

Following our update last week, we would like to share a gentle but important reminder regarding parking and waiting during the busy drop-off and pick-up periods.
We have recently received feedback from our local residents, including several elderly neighbours, who are finding it very difficult and distressing when they cannot enter or leave their homes. We want to ensure that our school remains a positive and supportive part of the local community, and that means ensuring our neighbours feel safe and able to go about their day without delay.
How you can help:
Park and Stride: If possible, please try parking a little further away from the school gates. A short 5-minute walk can significantly reduce the congestion on the immediate roads.
Respect Private Spaces: Please avoid using private roads and driveways, even for a very short stay.
Keep Access Clear: Ensure all resident access points remain completely unobstructed so our neighbours can go about their day without delay.
We truly appreciate your cooperation and kindness. By making small changes to where we park, we can make a big difference in the lives of those living nearby.
With thanks, as ever, for your support, and wishing all a lovely weekend,
Marieke Forster
