Dear Parents, Carers, and Students
As we reach the end of Spring 1, I would like to thank you for your continued support. This half term has been a very busy and productive time, both academically and in student personal development. Whilst this week has been a difficult time for our community, I have been moved by the way our students and families have shown such kindness to one another. Please be assured that we remain here to support our students in any way they may need, and our pastoral doors are always open.
I am incredibly proud of the resilience and spirit our students have shown throughout this term. Year 11 and Year 13 are to be congratulated on the confidence, independence, and strength they demonstrated during their recent mocks. Similarly, our Year 8 students showed those same qualities of character during their Outward Bound trips to Aberdyfi in January. Beyond the classroom, it has been wonderful to see such a huge variety of academic and sporting competitions take place, showcasing the diverse talents within our school.
As per the written letter that has recently been sent to all, a small note from our Chairs of Governors we currently have vacancies for parent and carer roles within our school community. Further information and details on how to express your interest can be found in the letter here.
As we approach the half-term break next week, I hope that all our families have the opportunity for a peaceful time together. We look forward to welcoming the students back, refreshed and ready for Spring 2.
Last week
Swimming
A huge well done to our students who participated in a joint water polo tournament with Abingdon School last week. After a valuable training session to sharpen their skills and understanding of the rules, they played in mixed teams. It was a fast-paced, highly enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
This week
Netball
A thrilling performance from the U15B Netball team against Aylesbury Vale Academy! Despite a 14-18 loss, the team showed great character, turning a slow start into a narrow halftime lead through brilliant teamwork. Iliana earned Player of the Match for her composed shooting and vision. The team should be proud of their resilience and development throughout the game.
Swimming
It was a fantastic week for our Junior and Inter (B&C) swimmers, who dominated with 11 first-place finishes. The atmosphere was electric during the final 8-swimmer squadron relay, which we finished in second place. A huge well done to Amelia, Ella, and Sophie for their brilliant efforts.

As part of our study of Global Systems, Year 13 Geographers organised a Banana Bread bake off, following on from their lessons looking at the inequalities of the global trade of bananas. Students have been evaluating the implementation of trade deals and special differential treatment that has allowed developing producers to expand their relationships with TNCs and Higher Developed Economies. Only Fairtrade bananas were used in these bakes!
Congrats to Lisa, who was crowned ⭐⭐⭐ Star Baker ⭐⭐⭐ by Miss Kilkenny and Mrs Carbonaro.

As we approach the upcoming exam period, we know that the "final stretch" can be a whirlwind of emotions for both students and their families. To help you navigate this time, we are hosting a dedicated session on Tuesday 24th March 2026 at 2:30pm on how parents and carers can effectively support their daughters through revision and exam season.
Will you join us? Please confirm your attendance by filling out the form here to confirm your attendance.
We want to say a huge well done to Amaira and Eva (Year 7), who have recently delivered an inspiring assembly to their peers. Throughout this week, they shared a presentation based on their powerful TEDxYouth talk, "Rethinking Disability—Through Our Eyes." We are incredibly proud of their initiative and the passion they brought to such an important subject. Please see below on what they had to say about the experience and a link to the video of their talk:
"All through this week, we have had the opportunity to deliver an assembly inspired by our recent TEDxYouth talk: ‘Rethinking disability-Through Our Eyes.’ We are immensely grateful for the chance to speak about a topic extremely close to our hearts and that we could make at least a few people reflect or change their perception on disabilities. As we have mentioned, we believe that Inclusion starts in school. It starts with the younger generation: people of our age. We want you to think about barriers… What are the real barriers? Is it the disability or the environment that restricts people with disability?
Once again, we would like to thank the school for this amazing opportunity to make a difference: we hope even this small talk can initiate a change.
Value ability before disability."

We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate a massive achievement by Hansi in Year 8, who dominated the boards at the NSCA 2026 County Chess Championship on Sunday, 8th February. Competing in the challenging Under-15 section, Hansi demonstrated incredible focus and strategy to be crowned the Girls’ Senior County Chess Champion. This was a testament to her dedication and sharp tactical mind. We are so proud of her! Checkmate, indeed!
In the week of Safer Internet day, we wanted you to be aware of this year's theme: ‘Too good to be true? Protecting yourself and others from scams online‘. Please do have a look at the useful resources here.
With a bit of down time over half term, it might be a good opportunity to review whether your parental controls at home are keeping children safe online. There is some very useful guidance on this here from the London Grid for Learning. Please remember that our AHS filtering and monitoring only works at AHS and when students are on AHS accounts at home. But if students set up their own accounts at home they will be able to access anything unless you have parental controls set up.
