At Ahmedabad University, events are a medium through which a sense of fraternity and friendship is fostered amongst students. Clubs and Associations are considered an integral part of the university since they allow students to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities, academic associations and social and cultural events, which are designed and developed by the students themselves.
The Students' Magazine Club aims to provide a platform for students to make friends and connections with people who share similar interests as themselves and also create a safe space for student expression. When students from different disciplines and backgrounds come together for a shared interest and participate in an event, it makes the environment more interdisciplinary and inclusive. We facilitate participation in an array of co-curricular activities and social & cultural events - all designed, developed and curated by our student-led team. Aimed at enhancing university experience, the Students' Magazine Club's events are a great way to make friends with others who share your interest and explore passions. They will help develop a wide variety of skills, nurture interests, and use the university platform to grow the student's abilities and networks.
Events on Campus
The Students’ Magazine Club believes in underscoring unheard voices and unearthing hidden talents. Speaking out about issues that are usually unspoken, breaking social stigmas and lending a hand into building a culture free from all stereotypes is what we prioritize. Hence the club organized a Pride Fest at Ahmedabad University to celebrate one year of independence for the LGBTQ+ community, from the legislature that bound them from expressing love.
The event was free and open for all those who wished to attend, especially those part of the LGBTQ+ community in Ahmedabad, who came to share their stories and experiences and express their pride in their identity in a supportive and enthusiastic environment. Students participated in an open mic event, sharing their ideas, some light and happy music and an engaging session where they could tap their shoes to some rock and roll tunes and celebrate love with joy. Food, refreshment and game stalls made this event all the more enjoyable and encouraged more people to participate and spread love.
The murder mystery event was conducted on 23rd October at GICT lawn as a fun activity to get students involved in critical thinking where they find clues using their skills to track down the murderer in the game. There were three different crime scenes set up around the GICT building which had three different cases and character outlines. The writers came up with original stories and for the clues, paper chits and existing objects found at home were used to build a crime scene. Registrations required participants to pay 20 rupees for an individual and 100 rupees for a group of 5. Final registrations were of about 120 people who were divided into groups and assigned their cases. Participants had to run from one clue to another around the building and were judged based on which group completed all of the tasks the fastest. The winning groups from the three different crime scenes were awarded with coupons worth 500 rupees from Fullfill.

As a part of the Youth Fest 2022, the Students Magazine Club organized an on-campus edition of the Murder Mystery. There were 2 rounds, 35 teams and 193 participants. All of them were allotted one and a half hours to solve a set of clues. The clues included chat screenshots, autopsy reports and other evidences spread across the campus. Students were seen running from one location to the next to beat the clock and unmask the murderer. No stone was left unturned! The Magazine Club worked tirelessly to make the event a success. Since the event was offline, a wider range of interactive media such as videos, photos and other props were used to enhance the experience. The teams thoroughly enjoyed the event!
Events Online
In the academic year 2020-21, the clubs of our university went online to continue engagement and host lively events for our student community during the pandemic. The Students' Magazine Club rose to the challenge to curate fun, exciting and thought-provoking events to make the freshman batch as well as the older batches feel welcome and excited about their university.
Speed talk, at its core, is designed as a platform for students to mingle with each other and get to know their peers better. This was an especially valuable experience for the freshman batch who were unable to experience social life on campus due to the pandemic in 2020. An overwhelming amount, about 200, number of enthusiastic students were a part of this event. This event enabled the incoming batch of students to interact amongst themselves and make lasting friendships and cheery acquaintances.
Baatein Ankaheen is a series of events which aims to facilitate discussion on topics that might be considered taboo otherwise. These discussions encompassed a wide range of topics- from dark humor to freedom of expression. The primary focus of this event was to nudge the students to ponder over such issues by equipping them with an environment that is conducive to debate and discussion while also creating a space to unwind and have some fun.
Through this event, the Fitness Club and the Students’ Magazine Club created a safe space for students to express their inner thoughts and qualms. This event saw thoughtful discussions amongst students about mental health and also showcased the talent of our student body as students chose to express themselves through poetry, prose and music. Some picked up their guitars to sing songs, others expressed themselves by reciting self-written poetry. All were met with support and encouragement from the participants.
Murder Mystery was a part of the Youth Fest 2021. It originated from the need to create an event that is exciting but simultaneously challenging. This event demanded the participants to use their wits as they navigated through the different tasks and puzzles while also thoroughly enjoying themselves. About 170 participants were put in teams of 5 which amplified their fervor as they got a chance to compete against the other teams.
To celebrate Pride month, The Students' Magazine Club and The Film Appreciation Club were in conversation with Professor Chirag Trivedi to discuss the representation of Queer characters on the silver screen. Film and TV series clips were shown to understand positive or negative representation and understand the impact of queerbaiting and queercoding which is rampant. Professor Trivedi shared his perspectives and the discussion was insightful where participants expressed and refined their opinions.
