The stored crops may be of no value if there is less demand for them in the market.
The whole batch may get destroyed even if a small number of crops with it are rotten.

Making sure yield remains the same

Customers must get healthy products

Products sold by shopkeepers to the customers may be of low quality because shopkeepers might be storing crops in unhealthy conditions.

Treating people who get sick because of bad food

Hampering of Economy

If crops are damaged due to pests, there will be a food shortage and hence we will have to import food from overseas, which could affect the economy of a developing country like India.
