Welcome to AGWSR High School Choir

Welcome to the AGWSR Choir page. AGWSR has 1 main choir that meets everyday. We spend most of our class time working on concert music but we also spend time sight singing, and spend some time learning some basic music theory and history. We have a select ensemble that is audition only, we perform 4 different concerts throughout the year, we participate in the NICL Conference Choir Festival, State Solo Small Ensemble Contest, and State Large Group Contest. We strive to provide students with many opportunities with the program. Check out below for some of the things we have done.

Follow the program on Twitter- @AGWSRmusicdept for up to date informations and happenings.

Concerts

We present four concerts every year. Our Concerts are in Oct., Dec., March, and May. Our Winter Concert in December is presented with the AGWSR Band and Jazz Band. Our March concert is our Pop's Concert. The students help pick the music and themes for this concert. They also have the option of preparing pop solos or groups to perform that night. We also sing for community groups and for Veteran's Day. You can watch our concerts in the youtube playlist linked below.

State Contests

We participate in both State contests every year. In April students may choose to take a solo or small group to State Solo and Small Ensemble Contest. There the students are critiqued and given a rating by a judge. Our groups and soloist routinely come home with high ratings, but more importantly they grow an incredible amount as musicians as they prepare and perform their music. In May the full group participates in the State Large Group Contest. Usually we take a Mixed Ensemble (Boys and Girls) as well as a Treble Clef Ensemble (Girls Only). Sites for these events are usually announced by February every year.

2017 Results:

All State Auditions

Students have the opportunity to audition for the Iowa All State Chorus every fall. While it is a hard group to get into, students learn and grow a great deal by participating in the process. They work hard practicing three or four times a week, and get to work on more challenging music. Every year we have 2-6 people complete the process. Since 2010 we have had three students make the Iowa All State Chorus.

Honor Choirs

Every year students have the opportunity to participate in various Honor Choirs. Students are nominated for the group and then are selected based on their abilities to perform. Usually they include 1 or 2 days of preparation as a group and end in a concert. In the past we have participated in the ICDA Central District 7th-9th Grade Treble Clef Honor Choir, Luther's Dorian Honor Choir, Wartburg's Meistersinger Honor Choir, and Central College's Singfest.

Other HS Opportunities

In Feb. 2017 members of the AGWSR choir performed God Bless America at an Iowa Wild game. We had 18 students attend and a number of parents joined us as our cheering section. We then got to stay and watch the game. It is an oppertunity we hope to do again in the future.
