What is SAE?
An SAE, or Supervised Agricultural Experience, is an activity that students participate in both inside and outside the classroom. These are semester-long projects, work-based experiences. These projects are part of your student's grade in the classroom.
The first level is foundational. This is for students who have never had an SAE. This enables students to explore various career paths.
Once students complete the foundational level, they progress to an immersion SAE. This encompasses multiple categories, including placement, entrepreneurship, research, school-based, and service learning.
Students will log hours on a website called THEAET. This will be the platform where you can track your hours, financial investments, as well as apply for degrees and awards.
All agriculture classes are composed of a model known as the three-circle model. Each of these three circles are to be implemented in the classroom. Those three circles are FFA, SAE, and Classroom.
FFA - Students will learn about FFA in the classroom and are highly encouraged to join.
SAE - Students will also learn about SAE projects in the classroom and will be required to complete one, which will account for 30% of their grade.
Instruction- Finally, the third circle is instruction, which consists of the content of the class.
Supervised Agricultural Experiences develop crucial life skills for your student. Skills that your students will learn include, but are not limited to: leadership, communication, and employability skills.
Not only are those life skills necessary this also allows your student to explore potential careers they are interested in. This allows them to see what the day-to-day looks like, as well as letting them discover if it is something they want to do.
