Pitcher's Thistle abundance has declined in recent decades due to habitat destruction which has caused these to go on the threatened species list. A threatened species is a species that is at risk of becoming endangered, while endangered species is one that is at risk of becoming extinct. Pitcher's Thistle can be identified by its woolly leaves and by the presence of spines at the tips at each point on the leaf. Pitcher's Thistles are an important food sources for certain birds, especially Goldfinches.
