ABSTRACT
European Union is a very importantant mechanism to promote peace, humanism, respect and tolerance. EU institutions and theirs competences are not know by most of our students. European Parliement or European Comission are very far for a simple family in Portugal, mostly to those who have low qualifications and low opportunities. Agrupamento de Escolas de Arrifana, Santa Maria da Feira has 57% of students with low income, getting social support, and their families have low income. Understanting and promoting European values is being promoted by this school cluster since the first European project (Comenius, 2009) allowing to take contact with different countries during these years. This project is an opportunity to boost students knowledge about Europe. European elections are also something that seems to have low impact on youngsters voters. So, we want to promote a better participation and understanding about the role of Europe of a daily life of a Portuguese person.

As a result of this initiative, our school will empower teachers to teach about the EU complementing already existing courses, officially embedded in the curricula, using engaging methods and to bring facts and knowledge about the European Union to their learners, improve learning outcomes on EU matters, strengthen EU literacy, create interest in the European Union and constitute a basis to enhance participation of pupils and students in the democratic process and leave them better equipped to become active citizens.

Extracurricular seminars, study visits and other kinds of EU experiences involving other organisations will be used to promote democracy, EU history, explain how the EU works, cultural diversity among others.

Activities organised will boost learning about the European Union in ways that inspire. They will help students to strengthen their sense of belonging to the EU, the impact it has on their lives and their understanding of EU mechanisms and policies.

3- to increase quality of EU innovative teaching and learning methods, with particular attention to the EU priorities;
4- to improve learning results about the EU of students who are better equipped with knowledge and understanding of the EU, its history, values, objectives as well as the institutions, decision making processes which influence the daily lives of young Europeans and enhanced active citizenship among students and teachers.
