Counselor Class Lessons
Counselors work with each grade level team and bring lessons to all students.
These lessons may include understanding our role, health habits, problem solving & conflict resolution, mindfulness and emotional regulation.
Brief, Solution Focused Individual Counseling
School counselors do not provide clinical therapy.
We assess the situation with a student and work with the student and family to provide support, encouragement and resources.
Topics include: anxiety/worry, attention/focus, depression, family violence, divorce, child abuse, child neglect, suicidal ideation, death of a family member, friendship mediation
Scheduling
This is a major part of our job.
We work to create the master schedule for the building.
We work to create student schedules including virtual and home school students.
Student Support Team Member
We attend meeting to help advocate the best for the student.
Teachers refer students to the Student Intervention Team to receive support through Response to Intervention or strategies to help the student improve academically or behaviorally.
Through this process we see improvement or the student may be referred for a special education evaluation.
Complete the referral process for a student being initiated for an evaluation to special education.
504 Building Coordinator
We work closely to identify students that may have a 504 disability or parents request a 504 evaluation through us.
We facilitate this process by convening Team Meetings and creating all of the legal documents that go with the process. Meetings are held and paper documentation is created and sent to anyone in the process.
If a student qualifies for a 504, we monitor these 504s and ensure teachers/staff are following them.
Standardized Testing (MAP) Building Coordinator
Facilitate and manage the Missouri Assessment Program Standardized Assessment for students in third - fifth grade.
Winter Wish and Backpack Assistance
Communicate & collaborate with the social worker, Jessica Crawford to establish students and families that may need assistance.
Transitions from 5th-6th grade and 8th-9th grade also including new students
Work with families on new students incoming to RMS to establish schedule
New student lunch
Visit Gotsch to talk with students about middle school
5th grade parent welcome night at RMS
Fly up Day for 5th grade students
ICAPS for all 8th grade students
8th grade celebration
Participate in committees and meetings
Collaboration with team grade levels monthly

We have several outside agencies that partner with us to provide counseling and therapeutic services to our students during regular school hours.
There are many agencies that come to RMS to present to our students on topics such as harassment, safe connections, etc.
Awareness Weeks and Programs
Student of the Month
Recognize awareness weeks throughout the school year and help students understand and learn.
Participate in programs such as Red Ribbon Week, Best Buddies, etc.
Communication and Social Media
Counselors help support announcements daily with students
Counselors complete the "Counselor Corner" for parent weekly that is attached to Dr. Griffin's weekly update.
Counselors complete the "Counselor Corner" for staff weekly.

Duties within the school day such as parent drop off or pick up
