You probably know a lot about fungi, but have you ever heard about Protists?
Protists and fungi are diverse groups of eukaryotic organisms that play essential roles in many ecosystems. Protists include a wide range of mostly microscopic life forms—such as algae, amoebas, and ciliates—that can resemble plants, animals, or fungi in how they feed and live. Fungi, on the other hand, are primarily decomposers that absorb nutrients from their environment and include familiar organisms like molds, yeasts, and mushrooms. Together, protists and fungi contribute to nutrient cycling, help maintain ecological balance, and offer insight into the complexity of life beyond plants and animals.
