We support free for Iowa schools a hosted LMS solution, AEA K12 Online. Individual teachers can gain course space right away. This system works well for deeper levels of instructional use, with its ability to set up groups, progress monitoring options, conditional activities, advanced forums and quizzes, and built-in rubric tools (just to name a few).
For lighter instructional use, Google Classroom is a great choice. Free for Iowa teachers, Google Classroom works with your school's Google domain, automatically creating copies of Google documents to serve as assignments, and utilizes Google forms for simple quizzes. For many who use Google Classroom to extend their face-to-face classroom, using this online is simply the next step.
While available for all grades, the free Seesaw system makes sense for primary grades. It doesn't require a student login with password (or a Google account), and is targeted for parents as much as students. During COVID-19, teachers can take advantage of Seesaw's repository of community-made activities to share with students.
