What is Orchestra?
Orchestra is a group of student musicians who rehearse and perform instrumental music together. An orchestra is usually under the direction of one or more conductors. A school orchestra consists of violins, violas, cellos, and sometimes double basses.

Rehearsal Schedule:
Every Thursday After school until 4:30pm starting September 11th
Practice
Each lesson, students will be assigned songs and exercises in “Essential Elements For Strings.” Students will write these exercises down in their practice log (located in the back of the book) and record their weekly practice. Practice logs will be checked every 9 weeks. If a student is not maintaining their practice schedule, they may be asked to return their instrument and resign from orchestra.
Concerts
Concert dates and times will be announced weeks in advance so that students and families can make arrangements to be there. You will be notified about performances by email and flier.
Student attendance at concerts is mandatory
Students should arrive to performances 30 minutes early to warm up
Concert attire: All students should wear black pants or a black dress and a white dress shirt, with black shoes and black socks.
Where Do I Get An Instrument?
Instruments can be rented from Bertrand’s Music at the following website:
Bertrand’s Music AEA Instrument Rentals. Very convenient and they will deliver the instrument to school.
If you wish to purchase an instrument please consult with Mr. Klein or an experienced string teacher before making any decision
If a student is unable to rent or purchase an instrument for any reason, a very limited number of instruments are available to borrow on a first come first serve basis. Please mark this on your sign-up

Essential Agreements for Orchestra
We will come to each practice prepared with our instrument, book, and pencil
We will practice assigned songs each week
We will be on time
We will be respectful to ourselves, other students, teachers, and our instruments
No food, drinks or gum during rehearsal.
We will give our best effort
All school policies will be followed and enforced during rehearsal.
We will check emails regularly for updates on performances and events
*If students continuously break these agreements (i.e. not practicing) they will be asked to resign from the orchestra program.
For 5th Grade Only

Band is a group of student musicians who rehearse and perform instrumental music together. A school band consists of woodwind instruments, brass instruments and percussion instruments.
