Instruments and supplies list

Instrument Supplies 

Each instrument has supplies that go along with it that need to be stocked and kept in its case. Here is a list of items needed for each instrument. They can all be purchased at a local music store such as Bertrand’s Music in store or online at https://bertrandsmusicrentals.com/c-224-band-accessories.aspx

Flutes:

• Polishing cloth

• Swab

Clarinets and Alto Saxophones:

• Reeds: size 2.5. Preferred brands are Vandoren and Rico. Students should have a minimum of 3 reeds that they rotate through at all times. 

• Cork Grease

• Neck Strap (saxes only). 

Trumpets/ Baritones:

• Valve oil. The valves of the trumpet dry out over time and need to be lubricated. Only use valve oil specific to musical instruments! 

• Tuning Slide Grease

Trombones:

• Slide Lubricant. This comes in a few different forms from cream, to spray. Be sure to use Trombone slide specific lubricant, as it is different from tuning slide grease. Yamaha is the preferred brand. 

• Tuning Slide Grease

Percussion:

• Sticks. Vic Firth 5A

• Practice Drum Pad

Violins/ Violas:

• Rosin

• Shoulder Rest

Cellos:

• Rosin

• Endpin Rest

*Method Book for all ORCHESTRA instruments is: Essential Elements Book 1

Rehearsal Materials

These are items that will be used at group lessons and ensemble rehearsals. Be sure to bring these every time we meet.

Instruments can be rented from Bertrand’s Music at the following website:

If a student is unable to rent an instrument for any reason, a limited number of instruments are available to borrow through AEA on a first come first serve basis. Please reach out to Mr. Klein tklein@aeacs.org
