Math

3rd graders will have math instruction daily and homework will be assigned nightly, Monday-Thursday nights.  Typically, the homework will be the gray pages after each lesson.  Students need to bring their math chapter book back and forth to school each day.  We use Go Math - California edition for 3rd grade.  If you ever want to see examples of the lesson being taught, you can always search on YouTube the lesson number.  For example, "Go Math Ch. 3 Lesson 2" and you will find examples of how we are approaching that topic through our textbook.  Mr. Math Blog is a good resource, linked here.

Ten Best Ways to Help Your Child with Mathematics:

1. Be supportive and encouraging

2. Allow them to make mistakes

3. Let them share "their" way with you, before you share "your" way

4. Ask to see notes from class.

5. Review examples found on  lesson pages.

6. Review vocabulary

7. When possible review basic skills as a game

8. When possible have child use in math in real life

9. Communicate regularly with your child about math

10 Be supportive and encouraging!

If you are noticing your child is feeling stumped or lacking confidence with a concept, please reach out to your child's teacher.  Sometimes in the classroom kids have their game face on and resist asking for help.  When you're working at home, you often see their best understanding of the material, as we all feel most relaxed at home.  Thank you for being extra eyes and ears to help us make sure your child feels supported through the math instruction this year.
