The Archaeological Dig Site is a hands-on, outdoor interdisciplinary learning space is designed to immerse K–12 students in the methods and discoveries of archaeology. Inspired by the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse Archaeological Site, this educational simulation introduces students to the science of uncovering the past through artifacts, features, and historical clues buried beneath the surface.
The site supports multidisciplinary learning across science, history, and math while developing critical thinking skills by allowing students to:
Practice archaeological skills such as excavation, observation, site mapping, and artifact identification.
Develop scientific inquiry skills through hypothesis formation, data interpretation, and analysis.
Experience the interconnectedness of Florida history, anthropology, and environmental studies.
Coupled with the facilities in the Marcus Research and Innovation Center, we can bring to life almost any lesson via 3D printing.
Designed for 30 students to work concurrently in stations
Step into discovery at our new interactive dig site, designed with distinct zones to support a variety of learning styles and curricula across all grade levels. Whether your group is studying early civilizations, archaeology, or hands-on science practices, there’s something for everyone to explore. Our archeological site features a Historic Unit, a pre-Contact Unit, and a General Dig Area. Click through the carousel to the right to learn more about each zone.
Tool Cart with all the necessary tools:
