Lower School

Battle of the Books pits teams of 4th and 5th graders from schools across the valley in Jeopardy-style matches based on eight books. Adelson's own team, Literary Lions, took 2nd place in 2021-2022!

The competition is open to fourth and fifth grade Adelson students. Students read and study the 8 designated books (see left) very carefully to prepare for exciting Jeopardy style battles to take place in Spring of 2023.

All books are available in public libraries, can be purchased, and an extra copy of each will remain in the Adelson Library for students to browse and reference while in the space.

We'll officially begin Battle of the Books in September, so begin reading now!

With generous support from our PTO and administration, our Scholastic Book Fair remains one of our most popular Lower School events.

The Scholastic Flaunt It Contest invites students in grades 3rd-5th to submit an essay describing the ways that their differences make them extraordinary. Our own London Porter (then 3rd grader) won Special Recognition in 2020!

During the Jewish holidays, students honor and learn about the traditions celebrated in Jewish culture as well as those celebrated within other cultures, thus inspiring an appreciation for the history behind these traditions as well as an understanding and acceptance of the traditions outside of Jewish culture.

In celebration of Nevada Day, students participated in the P.S. Nevada, I Love You Postcard project facilitated by our friends from Nevada Humanities.

Each year, our school unites in celebration of reading during Nevada Reading Week! Established as an official week of celebration by the Nevada Department of Education in the 1980s, Reading Week promotes the love of the written and spoken word.
