Google Meet is a very similar service to Zoom. Adelaide U3A and U3A South Australia each have a Not for Profit licence from Google Workspace to provide free licences for online tutors. Workplace membership allows one to host a session for any length of time with a group up to 150 people. This site is a guide for approved online tutors to get to know how to use Meet. Those requesting a Meet licence via U3A SA need approval from their home U3A to present an online course via Statewide.

South Australia membership appears as: ---- @u3asouthaustralia.org.au

Google Workspace is a set of internet tools for small to medium businesses. It includes Google Meet - an alternative to Zoom. Our subscription to the Workspace is provided free as a Not for Profit organisation. It also provides a range of other tools that may be of use to support delivery of courses at Adelaide U3A and Statewide. This site is a guide for beginners.
How it works
Google Workspace is our own little world. It is designed for medium to small businesses to manage their affairs. It has in-house email and other resources that can only be used by members of the Workspace. Once you have received your workspace email (@adelaideu3a.org.au or @u3asouthaustralia.org.au) you can access Workspace. You must be logged in to your account to use the apps. Once admitted you can use apps like Google Meet and many others. For example, you could set up a simple website like this in Google Sites. Remember, Meet with full privileges is only available those who are logged in to the Workplace. Anyone can be invited to a meeting.
NonProfit membership is significantly better than the free version. Meetings can extend beyond an hour with up to 150 attending. The NonProfit service includes all the usual features except Recording. However video and audio recording of a session is relatively simple to do independently. Remember, to use your account you need to log in with your new Workspace email account.

To create a new profile (if your'e using Chrome). See For Tutors (in menu) for why an extra profile is useful.
On any Google page you will see a series of nine dots at the top right of the page. Click it and you see this window with all the Apps. This is your access to Meet and other apps. Some of these might not be switched on yet.
On a computer you don't need an App, it just joins in from your browser (Chrome etc). On an iPad it is best to get the Meet app.
There is a web app for computers which offers some advantages, but the normal browser access works well.
