Presenting (sharing)
Anyone can have a play with Meet using the free service. You don't need Workspace permission and login. Free sessions are limited to 1 hour. You can use this to become familiar including with a practice group.
To gain access to Workspace as a presenter (beyond 60 min. you need permission as a tutor or prospective tutor. Contact me, jtravers@gmail.com with your request indicating whether from Adelaide of U3A SA.
You will get a new email ID which you need to use to log in (joeblogs@adelaideu3a.org.au or janebloggs@u3asouthaustralia.org.au) and get the free access. Once set up you need to operate Meet from this ID. So when sharing a screen of a web page you need to be working from a webpage linked to this login, not your regular ID. Note the image below: my regular ID is the blue banner window, the Workspace one is green. Using a separate Profile like this makes it easy to see where you are working and avoid confusion.

To get the benefits of your Worspace subscription you need to log in with your ID and password, so it has to be separate from your normal web browsing. The easy way to do this is to have a separate browser 'Profile'. See my three Profile windows to the Right: blue is my normal one, pink is Adelaide U3A login and green is for U3A SA login. All the main browsers have Profiles. Search for 'profiles for [your browser] to find out all about them.
To create a second Profile in Chrome, click your ID (photo), log in with your workspace IT, choose a colour etc. When the window is minimised you can spot the colour and open it.
There is some advantage to use Google Chrome browser because it has Profiles and Picture in Picture. Some other browsers have these too.
Google Meet is similar to Zoom in its functions as you will see from the Controls Display illustrated below. It is really valuable to have a trial before presenting. (Meet is free for anyone to use for a 60 min.) Invite your iPad or another computer or a friend to attend a session and try out Presenting. If you invite your iPad for a session you can Present and see how it appears to a participant - on the iPad.
This comprehensive site https://support.google.com/meet/answer/10550593?hl=en-GB#meet_extension gives step by step instructions: worth bookmarking.
Here is how to create a new Profile in Chrome. Click the photo ID of yourself, and you see the your basic profile, and any others listed below.
To creat an new profile click the + Add at the bottom.
Starting a session: Controls: for users and hosts
You should explore the controls below to see what each does. Those on the right are for the host of a session. Only a host can see these. See the padlock for detailed host controls.
Host controls are on the far right of Controls (padlock) at the bottom of the screen. Important: switch these on at the beginning of a hosting session. You probably want the group to be able to use all the functions.
The Tool-bar for the host.
You can Present from either a browser window (including its open tabs) or Windows of applications such as PowerPoint, Word, Photos etc. that are currently open.
Note, your Browser is a 'window' including its tabs and can be shared, so you can jump between the tabs as you present, which is convenient. When presenting it is important to be able to see the Window or Tab you are sharing and to be able to see the participants.
Important: have your share material open and ready before your session
When presenting, Chrome* browser allows Picture in Picture which you can see to the right - a small window showing all the participants . Before Presenting, go to the three vertical dots in Controls and select Picture in Picture. Then select Present. You can then see and manage the shared (Presentation) screen and see the participants as shown to the right. There are other browsers that have Picture in Picture as well.
*Check your current browser to see if it also offers Picture in Picture.
