These guidelines only apply to President's Scholars in tertiary education (College, Graduate School, and the College of Law). President's Scholars in basic education (Grade School, Junior High School, and Senior High School) abide by the academic requirements of the unit.
Coverage of the Grants
Generally, the grant covers tuition and miscellaneous fees only, excluding internal fees, for any given semester. The grant award also specifies if the financial assistance is for a percentage of tuition and/ or miscellaneous fees for a specific program, for a particular duration of the School Year only, or a full grant until graduation.
Terms and Conditions for a Renewal of a Full Grant
Continuing financial need
Satisfactory academic performance, i.e., QPI within standards, no failing grade;
A satisfactory manifestation of the scholar's willingness to serve
No infraction of school policies and scholarship policies/guidelines
Availability of funds
Academic Requirements
The scholar must remain in and finish the program for which he /she was initially awarded the scholarship grant. Dropping subjects/courses after the first week of classes is not allowed.
Generally, the scholar must incur no failing grade and must maintain an annual Quotient Point Index (QPI) of 2.50 (C+) for an undergraduate degree or an annual QPI of 2.0 (B) for a graduate degree, regardless of the program, with no grade lower than 1.0 (D) for an undergraduate degree, or with no grade lower than 2.5 for a graduate degree. For academic programs requiring a higher QPI, the student must follow the program's requirements. The grant is automatically terminated if the scholar fails to meet the requirements. However, if the scholar is given a chance after an appeal yet fails to make the required QPI and/or grade and other requirements, the grant is automatically terminated.
Non-Academic Requirements
As part of the University's mission, scholars are expected to actively participate in activities sanctioned by the school. They must attend all formation sessions, training, and seminars for scholars called by the Office of the President.
All college students awarded scholarships by the President of the Ateneo de Davao University are expected to render service to the school for at least three (3) hours per week or to render service based on special assignments given by the University President (volunteer work in a specific project or program in the University). Services may include office work, statistical jobs, assistance, volunteer work during executive meetings by the President's Office, ushering during important events, or such tasks as specified by the President's Office, as long as the service will not interfere with the scholars' studies and student functions.
Offices where President's Scholars may render service: iCommP Office, University Archives, CCFC and Martin Hall Office, Ecoteneo Office, Physical Plant Office, UITO, EVP Office, Purchasing Office.
For scholars who are affiliated with institutions (like NGOs, dioceses, religious congregations, SATMI, etc.), the scholar must have a service counterpart MOA with the sending institution stipulating return of service. The return service follows the standard policy: one year of study under scholarship is equivalent to two years of service in the sending institution.
Ateneans Helping Ateneans
Scholars who graduate from the Ateneo de Davao University are expected to help contribute to the A1 Scholarship Fund of the University. This is to assure the continuity and growth of the scholarship grant, as a result of this opening more slots and expanding possibilities of providing quality education to other financially disadvantaged students. Contributions may start on the 6th month after graduation. All donations and contributions must be remitted to the Scholarship Program through the Finance Office of the University or the Philippine Jesuit Foundation (www.philjesuit.net) if the donor is in the United States.
IMPLEMENTING POLICIES
Grades
1. Every semester, the scholar should maintain a QPI of 2.50 (C+) for an undergraduate degree, or a QPI of 2.0 (B) for a graduate degree, with no grade lower than 1.00 (D) for an undergraduate degree, or with no grade lower than 2.5 (C+) for a graduate degree. If the academic program requires a QPI higher than 2.50 (C+) for an undergraduate degree or 2.0 (B) for a graduate degree, the scholar shall maintain the required QPI specified by the program.
2. The scholar must not incur a grade of INC (Incomplete), FD (Failure Debarred), or F (Failure) in any course or subject.
Other Scholarship Grants
3. The scholar shall not enjoy any other sponsored or pre-need scholarship grant simultaneous with the President's Scholarship unless approved and sanctioned by the Office of the President. Accepting other scholarships without prior approval automatically terminates the President's Scholarship grant.
4. Receiving a scholarship from the University does not preclude receiving government financial assistance. However, scholarship assistance from the government must be considered as another resource in determining the eligibility for financial aid from the University and its benefactors. If a student had an initial need of Php 35,000 and received a Php 15,000 scholarship from CHED, the scholarship amount from the government would be subtracted from the initial need of Php 35,000, and the difference of Php 20,000 would be considered the student's remaining need.
5. Grants from the University and its benefactors are not reimbursable to the scholar in case of overpayment due to financial assistance from the government and other sources. The grants given by the University are specifically intended to cover the tuition and other fees of the scholar. They so cannot be used for other purposes by the scholar.
Grant Duration
4. The scholarship shall be for the duration as specified in the award (one semester only or one school year only) or for the whole of the degree program (three to four school years) unless terminated due to the failure of the scholar to comply with the terms and conditions.
Service and Formation Requirements
5. As a scholar formed to be a man or woman for others, the scholar renders community service in the University through the Office of the President as the counterpart for the grant. Service will be at least three (3) hours per week within the semester.

Other presidents' scholars employed by partner institutions, non-government organizations, university offices, institutes, and centers must render two years of service at the institution, employing the scholar for every year of study at the university.

18. Shifting must be within the priority or mission courses identified by the University President.
19. Shifting to another program should not incur additional costs; otherwise, the scholar shall shoulder the corresponding fees.
