The President’s Scholarship Program, established in School Year 2012–2013 by University President Fr. Joel E. Tabora, S.J., is Ateneo de Davao University’s premier scholarship initiative for financially disadvantaged students who demonstrate strong academic excellence, distinct leadership potential, and a deep commitment to service, particularly for Mindanao and mission areas of the University (like Culion, Palawan and Myanmar). It supports exceptional learners in tertiary education — including the College, Graduate School, and the College of Law — ensuring they can pursue their studies with solid institutional support. (Scholars in basic education follow the academic policies of their respective units.)
What Scholarship Provides
The grant primarily covers tuition and miscellaneous fees, either in full or in part, depending on the award. Some scholarships extend beyond academic expenses and may include:
• Lodging or dormitory allowance
• Monthly food allowance
• Daily transport allowance
• Tuition and miscellaneous fees
These expanded benefits support students whose financial circumstances require additional assistance to sustain their academic life.
Expectations of a Scholar
President’s Scholars must maintain the required QPI, incur no failing grades, and remain in the degree program for which the grant was awarded. They are expected to uphold University standards, comply with scholarship guidelines, and participate in required formation sessions and activities organized by the Office of the President.
Scholars must also render at least three hours of weekly service in assigned University offices such as iCommP, University Archives, CCFC, Ecoteneo, Physical Plant Office, UITO, EVP Office, and others. Those sponsored by partner institutions follow a return-service arrangement: one year of study under scholarship corresponds to two years of service in the sending institution.
Lifelong Commitment
Graduates are invited to support the A1 Scholarship Fund as part of the “Ateneans Helping Ateneans” tradition. Contributions beginning six months after graduation help sustain and expand the program, enabling more students to access quality Jesuit education.
