Physical Education

Students entering Mountain Range High School take the following course their freshmen year, healthy choices and introduction to fitness.


  • Healthy Choices: Healthy Choices is a required ninth grade health class that is designed to promote healthy lifestyle choices. Topics covered within Health Education courses may vary widely, but typically include personal health (nutrition, mental health and stress management, drug/alcohol abuse prevention, Violence Prevention, and Relationships. The courses may also include brief studies of environmental health, personal development, and/or community resources.


  • Introduction To Fitness: This course is for the 9th grade student. Successful completion of this course is needed prior to taking any other physical education course. At the conclusion of this course, students will have participated in a variety of activities and will have an understanding of the concepts that relate to health and wellness. This fitness course is with an active fitness component (typically including some aerobic activity along with our sports/games) with the intention of conveying the importance of lifelong wellness habits. Typical sports and games played in this course include racket sports such as badminton and ping pong, team sports including basketball and flag football, and Rec sport such as archery.
