LEGACY ORCHESTRAS
MUSIC & HARD WORK ARE OUR PASSION
About the Orchestras
Legacy High School is a proud Colorado high school known for its tradition of excellence in music education. The Legacy Orchestra program offers students outstanding learning opportunities, including participation in string orchestra, full orchestra, chamber ensembles, and AP music theory. The program has a long history of success, earning consistent superior ratings at regional, state, and national festivals. Students in the program are regularly accepted into the Colorado All-State Orchestra and numerous regional honor orchestras around the state.
Highlights of the orchestra's achievements include being a Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) Honor Orchestra in 2009, being an American String Teachers Association (ASTA) National Orchestra Festival Honor Orchestra in both 2016 and 2023, and performing in a TedxYouth event in 2022 with a program titled Baroque Through the Centuries. The orchestra has consistently qualified for the Colorado State Festival hosted by the Colorado American String Teachers Association. Through its commitment to high-level performance and educational opportunities, the Legacy Orchestras inspire a lifelong appreciation of music and a standard of excellence among its students and community.
There are currently two orchestra classes offered at Legacy High School. Concert Orchestra is the lower-level orchestra, and no audition is required; however, prior playing experience on a string instrument is necessary. The top ensemble is the Chamber Orchestra. In the registration catalog, this class is listed as "Symphonic Orchestra," but it is referred to as Chamber Orchestra on the program's website and in concert programs. The registration guide will be updated for future years to reflect this change. Auditions for Chamber Orchestra take place in March.
