Welcome to the Voyager Studio! We’re thrilled to have you join us for a visit day! Acton Academy might look and feel a bit different from the schools you’re accustomed to—and that’s perfectly okay! One of the most striking differences you’ll notice is that this school doesn’t have teachers. (Yes, you read that right!) Instead, Acton Academy follows a Learner-Driven model, which means you are in the driver’s seat! The adults in the studio, known as Guides, aren’t even allowed to answer your questions directly. (Surprising, huh?) Rather than providing answers, your Studio Guide will help you discover them on your own. So, don’t be surprised when your Guide points you toward a resource instead of handing you the solution. One approach you’ll see in action is the "Three B’s": first, consult your Brain, then a Buddy, and finally a Book. (Google, Kiddle, and the posters on the studio walls are also fantastic additional resources!)

Now, no need to worry—you won’t be on your own! Your studio is filled with fellow travelers, and one of them has been specially chosen to be your Running Partner for the day. This prequalified peer will be your biggest ally and helper. They’re here not only to answer your questions but also to stay by your side, showing you the ropes, and will model the way. If you’ve forgotten who your Running Partner is or aren’t sure, don’t hesitate—your Guide will help you reconnect with them. And while Guides won’t give direct answers, please never hesitate to ask them your questions!

What to do now? 

 If you are joining us for the morning part of our schedule, you will be spending most of this time experiencing Core Skills. Here are some ideas of what to do during that time:

Math Power Hour:

• Work on any Math you brought from home.

• Print a Logic Puzzle packet and start solving puzzles!

• Print out some Math Coloring Activities.

• Try out our primary Math program Beast Academy! (login info below)

DEAR Time:

• Read a book you brought from home.

• Find an exciting book from our studio library!

• Check out Epic and find a book online!

• Drop Everything, and READ!

Comms+ Hour:

• Try out our language arts program Nessy (login info below)

• Try out Duolingo.

• Take a tour of Journey Tracker and explore the "At Home Challenges" (login info below)

• Write a paper or research project! (Use this slideshow to guide you.)

Lunch/Free Time:

• Grab your lunch and sit with your running partner.

• Have fun and meet some new friends.
