Your children spent time this week writing thank you cards to the police officer that visited our classroom last week.
Your children spent a considerable amount of time constructing a city this week. They have added roads, a hospital, an apartment building, a bridge, zoo, post office, restaurant, police and fire station and a beauty/barber salon. They are very enthusiastic about this project.
Books, books, books! The children continue to enjoy spending time with books. They are working hard to read books that I have not introduced to them but that they have chosen by themselves.
My son visited Albania this week. He is in his fifth year of a residency at New York University to become a heart and lung surgeon. He came to school this week to teach the children about hearts and lungs. Before coming to school he went to a local butcher to get a cow's heart and a sheep's lungs so he could show the children how they work. The kids were very interested, asked good questions and hopefully learned something from the experience.
Andrea has a birthday in the summer when we are not in school so we celebrated her half birthday this week. Andrea's mother read a lovely story in Albanian to the children followed by the children enjoying a beautiful cake. Happy half birthday, Andrea!!!
Your children are continuing to study maps. Here they are finding Europe on a world map.
Work continues on the settlement. This week it changed from a nomadic settlement to a farm.
With our unit about cities we have been learning about community workers. Your children have expressed interest in police officers throughout the year so I invited a police officer to visit our classroom. The children had lots of good questions to ask him.
We then walked outside to view the police officer's car.
We all had a chance to sit in the police officer's car. Your children were thrilled!
We are headed to Kruja to visit the castle museum and a home from long ago. Your kids were SO excited to head out on this adventure. My husband was able to join us on the field trip to help out.
Here we are visiting the museum where we learned lots about Skanderbeg.
We then toured a 250 year old home originally built by the Toptani family that showed a traditional home during the Ottoman time period.
Enjoying a picnic lunch while sitting amongst the castle ruins.
Our trip concluded with some souvenir shopping which the kids LOVED.
Our class continues to spend much time making the settlement and changing it depending on what year it is.
Your children have pen pals from America. The American children attend the school I taught at last year. Your kids did a great job writing letters to their new friends last week.
Some of the older children from MYP came to our class this week to teach about directions (up, down, left, right, etc.)
Your children adore attending Performing Arts 4 times a week with Mr. Jose. Here are a few pictures from a recent class.
This blog post will be a bit different than the previous blog posts because I was out sick for a day and Ms. Edlira was out sick for the entire week. We simply did not get the time to take as many pictures of the kids as usual.
Your children spent a lot of time creating these landforms this week. Don't they look great! I was so proud of their hard work and ability to work together. Ask your child which landform they worked on and see if they can tell you about it.
The children have been learning about 3 dimensional shapes over the last few weeks. Ask your child what 3D means and see if they can show you which poster they worked on. Can they tell you the names of any of these 3D shapes?
Maps, maps, maps! Your children are very interested in maps and ask lots of good questions about them. This week we found the seven continents on the map and labeled them. Ask your child which continent they live on.
Look at your cute kids! I snapped these pictures yesterday afternoon at dismissal time.
