ACS Fact Sheet

The American Educational Association of La Paz, Bolivia (AEA), is a private, coeducational school, which offers an educational program from KG3 through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school was founded in 1955. The school year comprises two semesters extending from the first week of August of every year and ends the first week of June.

  • Organization: The school is governed by a ten-member Board of Directors elected for 2-year terms by the members of the Association. Membership in the Association is automatically conferred on the parents or guardians of children enrolled in the school. The school is incorporated and tax-exempt in the U.S. The Bolivian Government officially recognizes the school.
  • Curriculum: The curriculum is that of U.S. general academic, college preparatory public schools. The school-testing program includes the College Entrance Examination Board tests. Instruction is in English. Spanish and French are taught as foreign languages. Art, music, PE and computer courses are offered. There is no religious instruction. Most of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States and around the world. ACS is accredited by AdvancED.
  • Instructional Staff: There are approximately 6 administrators (Superintendent, 2 Level Principals, 2 Counselors, 1 Learning Services Coordinator, and a Head Librarian), 52 teachers and 10 instructional assistants. The school also employs a Business Manager and 6 Office Staff, a Doctor, and 16 Maintenance Staff that support the educational program.
  • Enrollment : As of May 2017 there were 545 students enrolled in grades KG3-12. Of these 545 students, 73.3% are Bolivian nationals and 26.7% are foreign nationals including 50 US citizens.
  • Facilities: The American Cooperative School (ACS), a private day school located in the Southern section of the city of La Paz, Bolivia, offers a K-12 education governed by both Bolivian and American Educational systems. Our campus features separate areas for Elementary (Early Childhood Education “ECE” -Grade 5) and Secondary (Middle and High School) and respective areas for the arts (band room, visual arts room), physical education, computer labs (three), and a common cafeteria. In addition, we have an auditorium, state of the art theater, swimming pool, lighted sports field, weight room, racquetball and tennis courts, playgrounds, and two libraries that are used by our students and the extended ACS community.
