Guidance and Support

Our experienced team provides personalised guidance to students, assisting them in making informed decisions about undergraduate studies, university selections, application processes and career paths. We also offer personality assessments for all Year 4 to Year 6 students. 

Practical Training

Annual workshops, including personal statement writing, mock interviews, and job shadowing, equip students with essential skills and real-world insights, ensuring a seamless transition from school to university. Our job shadowing program is unique to our school and offered every school holiday. 

Global Exposure and Connections

Explore global opportunities at our Higher Education Fair, where representatives from universities worldwide provide valuable insights. Throughout the year, university representatives visit our campus, offering firsthand information on diverse educational pathways. With over 100 university representatives annually, we foster global connections, ensuring our students have access to a multitude of opportunities worldwide. In collaboration with the IB Business Faculty, our department also brings students on annual overseas university visits (e.g. Australia, UK, U.S. etc), providing valuable on the ground exposure to international campuses and academic environments.

Our collaborative career forums, including a partnership with other ACS family schools to bring professionals and industry leaders to share insights, providing students with a broader perspective on potential career paths. We also run regular Alumni AMA (ask me anything) sessions in a casual setting for current students to hear from their seniors and ask them any questions they have regarding University and Career matters. Seniors also share IB preparation tips! 

Success Stories

Former ACS (International) students, armed with diverse academic pursuits and comprehensive CAS portfolios, have gained admission to universities globally. The Department of Higher Education and Careers doesn’t just offer resources—we illuminate paths.

We're here to guide you, but there are some things outside our purview. Let’s set some clear expectations:

• We won't inform you of your predicted grades but we can provide guidance on making choices.

• We can't and shouldn't decide a course and/ or university for you. It's all about fit!

• Deadlines are non-negotiable, not suggestions. We cannot bend them. 

• We’re not your tech support—start early on the application portals. Glitches do happen especially at the last minute. 

• Spoiler alert: no magic wands or crystal balls here! 

• Plan ahead by making an appointment with a Higher Education Counsellor beginning in Year 5.

• Stay organised by keeping all relevant materials, such as academic results and certificates, in both a Google Drive folder and a physical file for easy access later. Some universities may request certified true copies of documents with an official school stamp and signature, which can be obtained from the school’s General Office.

• Create a personal table to track university application deadlines and manage your application checklist.

• Consider which academic teacher or teachers you would like to approach for reference letters.

• Carefully evaluate the different factors involved in studying at a particular university, such as location and course strengths. To make a well-informed decision, identify the factors that matter most to you. While parents, guidance counsellors, teachers and friends can provide valuable advice, the final decision ultimately rests with you.

• Discuss financial considerations with your parents early in the process.

• Refer to the school’s monthly newsletters for Higher Education write-ups from alumni talks, university talks, job shadowing experiences and more! These resources can provide valuable insights for your planning.
