STEAM specials learned about the importance of Computer Science through a 2 week Hour of Code learning workshop using the amazing website created by Ryane Prawel.
Supported 3rd grade "media teams" in creating flyers using Adobe Spark. The library hosted some Town Halls with the candidates.
Ms. Hoekema showed students in 1st through 5th grade how to use Sora, an educational app that connects with the public library collection to allow students to access e-books and audio books.
Lessons were led on how to read them and minds were blown when some students discovered some Pokemon written in the Japanese manga style that have to be read in the opposite direction!
Using the green screen, we create a slideshow of what our Kindergarteners hope to be when they grow up. While I took their pictures, Mrs. Prawel (or Sara and Tye) had students coding BeeBots in various challenges.
Used library discards (especially from the Guided Reading area) as well as donations allowed every child to choose between 10 and 15 books to take home.
Mrs. Prawel and Ms. Hoekema are teaching students how to use BookCreator to make their own books. Some classes will use this site for projects in Science or Wit & Wisdom.
Had great times with each grade level team. K-2 were especially glad to learn about the digital Wit & Wisdom resources. Mini PD sessions during CPT's introduced technology programs and tech tips on how to blend 21st century learning within classrooms.Â
Ms. Hoekema and Mrs. Prawel shared an overview of the Wit & Wisdom modules and topics. The Specialists have begun to plan out support and integration of ideas with each grade for next year.
Led mini-sessions live and from the recording to celebrate world read aloud day in the week of February 1st and the following week with Kindergarten.
