We had quite a few students apply to be News Anchors or News Crew this year. We have asked our 5th graders to choose one leadership role so the team ended up smaller than in the past (but more diverse). Our weekly news broadcasts are on a different tab on this site.

Ms. Hoekema works with students who want to publish a book by helping them edit their writing and then publishing the book in the library. One student's family even went and self-published a book with a special hard cover (not pictured because all copies are checked out).

We had 38 students attend the initial interest meeting. Since then, 12 students have turned in a contract and a few more may still get their contract and products turned in. Although the team is already small, they seem to really be enjoying the books and each others company.

We presented our collection development plan to our school improvement team which will also serve as our MTAC committee in October.

New Books are the big news in the library this month. We've added 246 brand new books, many purchased by the library through district support and quite a few from Book Fair fundraising. Students are very excited about the new books, in fact I managed to build some excitement by having students "vote" on my shopping cart from Scholastic. We've expanded our science books, especially for K-2 students. We also added 255 books from Asheville Primary School to our HFE collection for a total of 501 new books.
