First Week Of School
Our kinder first week of school looks different than the rest of the grades at Claxton. Students will not attend school on Monday and Tuesday. Instead we have Family Visits on these days where families can come to your child's class and interact with their teacher in a one-on-one setting. This can help students feel more comfortable with coming in on their first day. On Wednesday and Thursday, we begin a staggered start. We have half of our class come in on Wednesday and the other half stays home and then on Thursday it switches. This works to give students an easier transition where they can get into the routines and space in a smaller setting before the whole class comes together on Friday for our first official day together as a Kinder class.
What We Are Learning:
At the beginning of our year in Kindergarten we are learning our classroom and school basics. We are starting with learning routines and procedures that we will use throughout the school year to help our classroom and learning run as smoothly as possible.

Please remember to email our office staff AND your child's homeroom teacher/IA if your child's original dismissal plan that you have communicated has changed!
If throughout the school day you have a question or need to contact your child's homeroom teacher for information, we encourage you to please add our wonderful IA's to your emails or parent square as we are always moving. If there's a change happening or a question you need a response to immediately, our IA's would probably see it before us and can help.

In Kindergarten we do not assign homework to our little ones, but will occasionally share resources with families that they can do at home at their own convenience. This particular document provides many hands-on activities that you and your child can make and practice with at home! This includes recognizing letters and their sounds, recognizing/counting numbers, rhyming practice, and more! We also encourage parents to be reading to/with their child everyday!
