The Asheville Primary Learning Commons experienced tremendous growth this year thanks to a supportive and visionary administration and district.
-Approximately 2500 new titles were added to the collection
-The Learning Commons was painted and new, student-friendly wall shelving was installed
-Lunch BINGO book clubs began in winter 2019
-2 book fairs
-The SHINE! Lab (a MakerSpace Environment) was designed and launched
-The Learning Commons received a $5,000.00 New Opportunities Grant from the Asheville City Schools Foundation to being a STEM club (with a focus on marginalized students) and improve the SHINE! Lab for the 2019-2020 School Year
-20 new iPads were purchased for the Primary Montessori Program
-Asheville City Schools Preschool Classrooms received new teacher/staff devices and 1 chromebox per classroom for student use.
-Give 5 Read 5 Summer Reading Book Drive
- Strengthen the Level Up Sessions to correlate with Montessori works and helping teachers to intentionally integrate technology in appropriate methods.
- Improve the collection age by 5 years.
- Meet the student book ratio of Asheville City Schools of 39 books per student. (As of May 2019 APS has 28 books per student.)
- Broaden book fair opportunities by partnering w/ PTC to host a Scholastic book Fair
- Successfully integrate the SHINE! Lab into the Enhancement block and reach marginalized students through the STEM Clubs.
- Support IAs in launching SHINE! Lab Enhancement Block
- Broaden students reading opportunities through strengthening Book Clubs/ Book Bingo
- Broaden students global awareness through an increase of Skype interactive sessions
