Hey awesome Cougar students and parents! I am very excited to get to know you this school year.
Our team nickname this year is The Phoenix - a mythical creature that was reborn from the ashes to rise again. A paraphrase of our team motto for the year will be "never failing, always rising!" If we can all maintain that attitude, we will succeed!
This is my third year at Asheville Middle School, however Asheville has not always been home. I was born and raised in Alabama, where I attend Auburn University, earning a degree in Logistics. I worked for several years in Atlanta as an analyst, before returning to school again to earn a law degree from The University of Alabama. I practiced law in Birmingham with a large firm then, after a major life event occurred, I decided to set aside the practice of law and go into business for myself. I moved to Greenville, South Carolina where I ran two small businesses. In 2016 I moved to Asheville where I returned once again to the classroom, this time at UNCA (Go Bulldogs!), to earn my teaching license.
Education was an imporant part of my life before I set off on my tour of colleges mentioned above. My mother was a middle school teacher for 30 years (English, P.E., and Social Studies). While I always respected her profession, I never thought I'd follow in her footsteps. Honestly, I don't think I was prepared to become a teacher until I'd had the other life experiences I've already told you about. But I'm so happy I decided to become a teacher.
I have a passion for the Social Studies, especially history, geography, and government, as well as for the well being of our community's children. It is no secret that today's children will become leaders of our very community one day, very soon. I hope that, through the time we will share together this year in the 7th Grade, I will be able to help with sheparding our awsome Cougar students on towards the role each of them will eventually fill in our shared society!
