Student averages are determined using a total points system. Tests will count 100 points. Point values for daily grades will vary. There is a class participation grade (see below) that counts as 100 points. Most other major assessments will be project-based, and point values will vary depending on rigor and length of assignment. Point values are at teacher’s discretion.
Learning and mastery of content should be the ultimate goal of each student’s education rather than achieving a certain grade. Because of this, students are welcome to retest any concept and redo most assignments. Please use the Request to Retest form for tests only. Please expect to redo assignments if mastery is not attained.
Because students learn at different paces, many assignments have flexible due dates. Please be cognizant of assignments because some, such as group projects and work assigned with a substitute, have “hard” due dates, or deadlines, and late work is not accepted.
The final exam is comprehensive and counts 1/5 of a student’s final semester average. Students may exempt the final exam, according to Athens High School policy found in the Student Handbook.
It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with his/her grade. However, progress reports are distributed at three week intervals, and grades may always be accessed through STI iNow. Please disregard grades recorded by Canvas. Official grades are kept in a hard copy grade book and are recorded in iNow.
