Achievement First Bushwick Elementary School is one of over 35 schools in the Achievement First network which extends across New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
Achievement First Bushwick Elementary School (AFBES) opened its doors in September 2006 in the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn, NY, and has been serving elementary school scholars for over a decade. AFBES serves Kindergarten to 4th Grade in a loving and caring environment while giving them the tools they need to thrive academically.
We are proud to be a full-inclusion school. We provide academic and behavior support to ensure all of our scholars meet their fullest potential. This includes speech, occupational, counseling, and physical therapy as required by Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), co-teaching, and special education teacher supports.
In 2019, Achievement First Bushwick Elementary School had the distinct honor of being recognized as a 2019 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the U.S. Department of Education.
AF Bushwick Elementary is home to the AF Bushwick Empower Program – Achievement First’s intensive program serving students with disabilities. The Empower Program’s design builds on the three pillars of our special services program: meaningful inclusion, intervention and specialized instruction to access grade-level curriculum. As a small-scale program than begain in 2017-18, it serves students in grades 1-4 from Achievement First Brooklyn elementary schools. The program is transitional in nature, with the ultimate goal for many students to have a thoughtfully planned and supported transition back to co-taught and general education classrooms at their original Achievement First school.
