RATIONALES
For each one of the above categories of writing artifacts, include a well-developed artifact rationale, which is an important element of your portfolio. The purpose of the rationale is to inform the reader why each artifact/visual was selected and how it relates to college and career readiness standards and life skills. Your rationale paragraph for each artifact should begin with a description or summary of the artifact/assignment, provide an evaluation and analysis of the specific skills demonstrated in the artifact, and then provide a justification as to how the artifact demonstrates proficiency, strengths, and talents in the corresponding skill.
When you write your rationale paragraph for each artifact, answer the following questions:
What is the artifact? (Describe or summarize the artifact and - in this case, what the assignment/purpose was.)
What are the strengths of each artifact and the specific skills demonstrated in the artifact? (Here you are evaluating your own work, acknowledging areas in need of improvement at the time but artfully highlighting your strengths.)
What did you learn or how did you grow as a result of your work on the artifact? (Thoroughly and honestly reflect on how you grew through this, both in specific skills and overall as a writer and a learner.)
