Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) occurs each June in Atlantic . It is lead by district FFA officers, with the assistance of the State FFA Officers. This conference provides students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills and prepare themselves to lead their chapter!
Greenhand Fire-up is held in Atlantic each October. It is a leadership program created for first-year high school FFA members. This conference aims to help new members understand what FFA is, and motivate them to get involved!
Our members show livestock and static projects at both the Guthrie and Adair County Fairs.
Our members participate in various livestock judging contests throughout Southwest Iowa. This allows them to grow their knowledge and skills.
District Convention takes place in early March each year. FFA members and guests from across the districts gather to compete in various events, conduct the annual business meeting, and elect the district officers!
Southwest District CDE day is held in Atlantic each fall. This allows members to compete in different CDE's and practice career skills.
Career Development Events (CDEs) are competitive activities designed to help FFA members develop practical skills related to agriculture, leadership, and career exploration. CDEs allow members to apply classroom knowledge in real-world situations while building teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Leadership Development Events (LDEs) are competitive events designed to help members build leadership, communication, and career-ready skills. Through activities like public speaking, parliamentary procedure, interviews, and teamwork challenges, LDEs give students real-world experience and confidence while preparing them for success in school, careers, and their communities.
The Iowa FFA State Leadership Conference (SLC) is an annual event that brings together FFA members from across the state to develop leadership skills and grow as individuals. The conference includes leadership workshops, keynote speakers, delegate sessions, and opportunities to connect with other members. SLC helps students build confidence, teamwork, and a deeper understanding of FFA and its mission.
Legislative Symposium is designed to build character and promote citizenship, volunteerism and patriotism. More than 700 members from 100 FFA Chapters across the state of Iowa will gather to learn about the legislative process, discuss agricultural issues and advocate for Agricultural Education and FFA.
The Iowa Agricultural Career Show, held during the Iowa FFA Leadership Conference, hosts over 6,500 attendees, providing students an opportunity to interact with industry professionals and learn about agriculture-related careers.
Every August, approximately 2,000 FFA members participate in the annual Iowa State Fair over the course of 2 weeks by showing various projects in Des Moines, Iowa.
Each year at the Iowa FFA Convention, members from across the state participate in packaging meals with Meals From the Heartland. This project allows members to give back while demonstrating FFA’s commitment to service, teamwork, and making a positive impact beyond the convention.
Members that attend the National career fair and talked with different schools and businesses that they were interested in. Students were encouraged to talk with three businesses and three college about the opportunities available to them.
Students that attend the National FFA Convention and Expo attend one of the leadership workshops that are available to them. These give students the opportunity to learn about leadership and teamwork skills from National officers and other facilitators.
