Assignment# 1: Meet MicroBit

Objectives: Students will learn:

• What is a Microbit?

• Inputs and Outputs

• MakeCode Integrated Development Environment

• Naming and Saving Programs

• Downloading programs to the MicroBit, and importing Hex files

• The Out-of-the-box experience demo program

• First Program: Flashing Hearts

Naming and Saving Programs:

Programs should be given a short name that describes what they do, such as motor test. 

 If you are creating multiple iterations of a given program, use the same name, but add a version number, such as motortest1, motortest2, Microetc.

Programs should be saved in a folder and uploaded to Google Drive.

Downloading code to the MicroBit:

(1) CLICK DISK ICON TO SAVE WITH A MEANINGFUL NAME

(2) DRAG DOWNLOADED FILE TO DESKTOP

(3) DRAG HEX FILE ONTO MICROBIT ICON

(4) SAVE FILE INTO FOLDER(UPLOAD TO GOOGLE DRIVE)

Downloading files using a Chromebook:

Download----->Show in folder----> drag hex file to Microbit

Importing Hex files into MakeCode Editor:

Go to makecode.microbit.org-- click on import-->Import File---->Choose File---->, browse to hex file--->Open
