The Department of Mathematics at IISER Pune is organizing this symposium on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Prof. Rama Mishra, who is working here as a professor. This event recognizes her contribution as a researcher as well as a teacher in the field of mathematics. It consists of two talks on Rama's work in Knot Theory.

Rama Mishra was born on 30 September 1964 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. After obtaining a B.Sc. and an M.Sc. degree in mathematics from the University of Allahabad, she completed her Ph.D. in mathematics from IIT Bombay in 1994. Her PhD thesis, Polynomial Representations of Knots, is based on representing non-compact knots in the Euclidean 3-space by polynomial functions.
She has been a postdoctoral fellow at HRI Allahabad and then at ISI Delhi from 1994 to 1998. Later, she subsequently joined the University of Delhi, IIT Kharagpur, and IIT Delhi to work as an assistant professor of mathematics. As a JSPS Research Fellow, she worked at the Osaka City University, Japan. She joined IISER Pune in 2007 and is presently working there as a professor. She has also been a visiting professor at the Boise State University and the New Mexico State University in the USA.
Her research expertise is in knot theory and low dimensional topology. She has been in the organizing committees of major scientific events on knot theory in India. She has guided several PhD, MS, and BS-MS students. For her MathSciNet profile, please visit Rama.
