Ms. Lopez

Hello! I’m Ms. Lopez, your child’s Middle School Social Studies teacher this year. I’m excited to explore history, geography, civics, and cultures with our students and help them become curious, thoughtful learners and responsible community members.

A few quick points:

Class focus: critical thinking, reading primary/secondary sources, evidence-based discussion, writing short analyses, and collaborative projects.
Expectations: Respect, effort, on-time work, and active participation. We follow 3 classroom rules: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Ready to Learn.
Assessments: Weekly checks (quizzes/exit tickets), project-based units, and a cumulative end-of-unit assessment.
Supports: I use clear routines, differentiated tasks, and scaffolded supports for students who need extra help.
Communication: Weekly classroom-posted website/Google Classroom is the most effective method of communication. For any questions or concerns, please email me at ylopez@academircharterschooleast.com or ClassDojo. I will respond within 48 hours on school days.
How families can help: Encourage daily reading, ask about class discussions, check planners for assignments, and attend conferences.
Fun facts: I love reading, historical podcasts, travel, and I welcome student interests and ideas for projects.
