Dear, Parent/Guardian,
Statewide End-of-Course (EOC) assessments are administered to students enrolled in the following courses:
● Algebra 1 (Middle and High School)
● Geometry (Middle and High School)
● Biology 1 (Middle/High School)
● Civics (Middle/Junior only)
● U.S. History (High School)
If a student passes the Civics EOC in middle school in Florida, they do not have to retake it in their junior year. The Civics EOC is administered in middle school, typically in seventh grade, and passing, it is a requirement for promotion to ninth grade.
Here's why:
Middle School Requirement:
The Civics EOC is a middle school assessment, specifically tied to the required civics course in middle grades, usually in 7th grade.
Promotion Requirement:
A passing score on the Civics EOC is a requirement for promotion from middle school to high school (ninth grade).
No Retake in Junior Year:
Since the assessment is tied to middle school promotion, there's no need to retake it in junior year, or any other high school year.
The content of this course pertains to the principles, functions, and organization of government; the origins of the American political system; the roles, rights, responsibilities of United States citizens; and methods of active participation in our political system.
