The Daily Trot took a unique approach to coverage for Men's Golf by having two golfers, Hunter Story (sophomore) and Trevor Fowler (junior), help recap and share the teams journey for the 2026 season.
The golf season was a success this year. Fowler recaps that his personal highlights for the season were. “Winning The Conference Championship, qualifying for States, First Team All Conference, First Team All County, placing first in multiple matches, and making memories with the team.” Whereas Story accounts the team practices and bonding being memorable moments that created forever memories.
Going into the next season, both players said that for the team to further the it needs to practice more outside of the golf season in order to work through more strugglesome skills. Story also adds that personally not only will he be practicing his “short game” but also improve his “mental game” and incorporating positive things. Overall Fowler explained that the team “grew in a lot of different ways. I think everyone's attitude got better and everyone has improved from their scores from last year to this year." Story provided a similar response by describing that “the team grew in every aspect with good form in the later stages of the season."
Before a match, both players had specific ways in order to prepare themselves. Fowler recounts “I prepare for matches by thinking about how I am going to play each shot and by praying before every match and asking God to give me strength and thanking Him for allowing me to play the game I love." In addition, Story shares he “would try to relax and get good sleep the night before”. During the game of golf often outcomes can be extremely unpredictable in relation the players explain how they overcame setbacks during a match. Story explains how he overcomes hardships in a match by “taking every shot one shot at a time and not let those setbacks influence anything else.” Fowler recalls, “I just try to let the bad shots go as soon as possible because I can’t do anything about the past but I can choose how I respond the rest of the match. A quote that sticks with me from Ben Hogan who is considered one of the greatest golfers of all time. The quote states that "The most important shot in golf is the next one." After a match the team would frequently go out to dinner. Story describes the post match dinners as “awesome since I got to spend quality time with friends and teammates." Aside from meals after a match the team would discuss how the match went and what to focus and improve on going into the upcoming matches.
