The Iran war is still an ongoing armed conflict in the Middle East that began on February 28, 2026. The war started when the United States and Israel launched large airstrikes on targets in Iran. These strikes hit military bases, government buildings and important infrastructure in cities like Tehran, Isfahan and Qom
The first attacks targeted Iran’s air defense systems, missile bases and government locations. During the early attacks Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, and several other Iranian officials were killed. Civilian areas, such as markets, schools, and hospitals were also damaged during the strikes.
The fighting quickly expanded with hundreds of strikes reported across many parts in Iran. Some reports indicate that over two dozen regions experienced attacks, with the capital city of Tehran being one of the most heavily targeted areas.
After the airstrikes, Iran responded by launching missile and drone attacks at Israeli targets and against military bases used by the United States and its allies in the Middle East. These attacks targeted locations in several countries, including Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
As the conflict continued, both sides increased their military actions. The United States and Israel carried out airstrikes on more Iranian military targets. In response to these strikes, Iran launched missiles and drones toward Israeli and United States bases in the Middle East. These attacks caused damage to military sites and some civilian areas.
The war also spread to nearby countries. Iran targeted locations in countries like Iraq, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait where United States and allied forces were present. Some of these attacks caused casualties and damage. Fighting in the region made travel and trade more dangerous especially in areas near important shipping routes.
Important economic areas were affected as well. The Strait of Hormuz, which is a key route for global oil transportation, became less safe due to military activity. This caused disruption in shipping and led to increase in oil prices around the world.
Both military and civilians have been killed or injured in the hosilities. Hospitals and other important services were also affected in some areas making it difficult to obtain medical attention.
Even with the heavy fighting. Iran's government remains in control of the country. Military forces continue to operate, and the conflict did not end quickly. As of now the war is still ongoing with continued fighting and uncertainty.
