Winter sports are here, and it's time for some action on the hardcourt. Coaches and players are starting early with their goals as the season cranks up.
Following the championship season of last year, the Women's team looks to follow on their success. Coach Sarratt said, “Winning the state championship last season was an unbelievable feeling. How do we follow? Last year, I'm not sure we ever envisioned that would happen. This year I think we look at it as a goal to get back. In order to do that, we know we have a lot of hard work ahead of us. We have a target on our back and know it's not going to be easy.” Following up the championship is going to be tough, but achievable for these Stallions.
Junior Varsity boy's are also experiencing how a new season brings both challenges and successes. Coach Allred is “excited to see each individual grow and push themselves towards their own goals and the team goals."
As Southeast grows, so does the philosophy and mindset of Coach Allred. “I have committed myself to being more calm on the sidelines and preparing my student athletes for any and everything that they might see on the court.”
Being a coach can be stressful at times, but it is rewarding to see players succeed. The past few years JV boys basketball has been putting forth their best efforts to collaborate as a team inside and outside practice. "I think the group of guys we have playing JV will continue to grow together and learn how to play with and off of one another. Our goal as a team is to win every game we play,” Allred said.
During the first few years as a school, Southeast was in a lower division due to population size, but this year they have moved up to take on a new tier of teams. Sarrat says, “We aren't nervous for the bigger game schools. We see that as a challenge and opportunity to get better. I'm not really nervous about anything...this team is a veteran team overall so I know they are ready for whatever comes their way.”
The Southeast Stallions are starting strong and gearing up for success. Coaches and players are excited to see what's in store for their current season. They started out this season with a slam dunk and are continuing to grow on the court.
