About Me

Welcome to my site! My name is Melissa Johnson.

My very own middle school years were spent right here at Southern Middle School! I am excited to be back "home". I graduated from UNC-Wilmington’s School of Nursing and I have been practicing as a nurse for 20 years. I am also a Nationally Certified School Nurse (NCSN). What does this mean? The National Board for Certification of School Nurses states that "the Nationally Certified School Nurse credential reflects competence and professionalism. To earn the NCSN a Registered Nurse must demonstrate a high level of education, clinical practice experience and knowledge". ABSS School Nurses are proud to represent the growing number of Nationally Certified School Nurses!

I grew up in Alamance County and have lived here most of my life. I am married with 2 children who also attend school within the Alamance Burlington School system. I am looking forward to meeting everyone so please feel free to introduce yourself if you see me on campus!

My goal is to team with you to ensure your student’s health and safety while they are at school. I manage students with chronic illnesses and train other staff to care for these students as well as taking caring of acute illnesses at school. If your student has a chronic medical condition or a health concern and we have not spoken yet, please email me at melissas_johnson@abss.k12.nc.us or call (336) 570-6500 so that we can discuss your student’s needs. You can also find helpful links on this page for things like diabetes, asthma, allergies, immunizations, nutrition and exercise etc... If you have a topic that you would like me to post information on, please let me know.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of any assistance. Here’s to a great school year!
