French I

French I is an introductory course to French language and Francophone (French-speaking) culture. By the end of the course, students should reach a Novice Low Proficiency level or above.

We focus on the following topics: Francophone culture & history, greetings, preferences, describing people, family. Popular culture is integrated into weekly materials, from music videos, movie clips, TikToks, news articles.

Students show their proficiency in French through reading, writing, listening, and speaking in classwork, homework, projects, and a variety of assessments. Activities range from individual, one-on-one, small groups, and interviews with the teacher, which can be recorded, in real time, practiced, and/or spontaneous.
