COURSE DESCRIPTION:
In general music, 7th graders will learn the fundamentals of music through critical listening, harmonic exploration, creative projects, and historical discoveries. Students will learn to curate their own musical tastes by exploring and using musical fundamentals.
COURSE ASSESSMENT:
A passing grade in music is contingent upon the submission of a song writing project taking place in the last month of the class, which summarizes the techniques and concepts taught throughout the year. The project will be completed during class time. The end result of the project varies from student to student depending on their comfort level with the material. The project is designed to allow students with prior experience to challenge themselves, whereas students who are new to the process of writing music can proceed at their own pace. All students must turn in a project or it will be reflected in their report card.
CLASSROOM POLICY:
Students are expected to respect the all ideas, thoughts, reactions, criticisms, and praises presented by the teacher and each other. Disregard for each other’s creativity and dignity will not be tolerated. As always, the teacher’s door is always open for extra help and guidance. All students are expected to follow the THINK model before interacting in the class:
