New Mexico Archaeological Sites and Other Field Trips

AAS Field Trips – 2026 schedule (Must be a Current Member of AAS)

Trips include easy, moderate, and strenuous levels of effort.  We hope to accommodate the interests and physical condition of all our members.

Saturday March 28, 2026: Rinconada Canyon Petroglyphs, Tour Leader, Nick Jarman, Archaeologist, US National Park Service 

Date to be determined: Pueblo Pintado, tour Leader Ann Braswell

I am starting to make contacts and arrangements for five other field trips.  When confirmation is obtained, the trips will be announced in the newsletter and the website.  Stay tuned to the newsletter and the field trip page in the Web site, you don’t want to miss out as the trips fill quickly. 

We may be able to catch a museum for a tour in the winter months.

2025 Field Trip Summary

 Saturday May 17, 2025: Ponderosa area trip to the two Pueblos that was rained out previously happened this time.  Great trip. Enjoyed by all.

Saturday June 21, 2025: Tsankawi Pueblo, Bandelier National Monument.  Updated cultural tour, petroglyphs, cavates and more - great trip.

Friday July 11, 2025: Trip to OAS Research Laboratories is a follow-on to the Shelby Jones Seminar.  Toured the newly reorganized laboratories.  One of a kind experimental equipment - good trip.

Saturday September 27, 2025: Field trip to Chacoan Great House, CANCELLED, got rained out

Saturday, October 18, 2025: CANCELLED GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN. 

2024 Field Trip Summary

Saturday January 27, 2024: Special Tour of Albuquerque Museum.

Sunday February 25, 2024: Special Tour of Albuquerque Museum, Coast to Coast to Coast Exhibit with Carol Chamberland as our docent.

Saturday April 27, 2024: Docent led tour of the Allan Hauser Sculpture Garden, south of Santa Fe.

Saturday May 18, 2024: Docent led tour of the Bosque Redondo Memorial at the Fort Sumner Historic Site.

Saturday July 13, 2024: Hike in the Santa Fe National Forest near Valles Caldera, Rabbit Mountain area, led by member and experienced hiker/guide Earlene Shroyer.

Sunday July 14, 2024, visit to the Albuquerque Museum’s exhibit “The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts”, Carol Chamberland will be our docent – always an outstanding tour leader.

Saturday August 3, 2024, Bison, Elk outing

Saturday October 6, 2024, Chama Valley Archaeological Conservancy Tewa site

Saturday October 19, 2024: Forest Service Archaeologist led trip to the Ponderosa Area - cancelled, snow

November 2024: San Jose de las Huertas in Placitas, Archaeological Conservancy - cancelled, snow
