Have you ever seen a student “do a 180”? It is a complete turnaround. Understanding replaces confusion. Confidence replaces embarrassment. Motivation replaces frustration. Success replaces failure. READ 180 is a research-based reading intervention program designed to raise the reading levels and test scores of struggling readers.
The READ 180 Model for Blended Learning gets students reading, writing, speaking and thinking critically every day through its research-based lessons and activities delivered in a variety of modes:
Whole Group Lesson :
Teachers begin the class by facilitating systematic instruction in reading skills and strategies, academic vocabulary, writing, and grammar to the whole class.
Small Group Lesson :
Students receive individualized, data-driven instruction that meets their unique learning needs while building meaningful relationships with their teacher.
Instructional Technology :
Students work independently on the READ 180 Software where they follow an individualized learning path that allows them to work within their zone of proximal development.
Independent Reading :
Students engage with complex, content-rich literature and informational texts that they can read with success and apply their newly acquired vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Wrap-up/Read Aloud
During class - activities, assignments, and directions will be shared via Google Meet and / or posted on Google Classroom.
Attendance will be taken for each class.
Most assignments will be submitted through Google Classroom. This may include: responding to a posted question, completing and turning in a provided assignment, or uploading a photograph of your work.
During virtual instruction, feedback will be provided verbally and in writing; sometimes it will be directed to an entire class, and sometimes it will be individualized. Students can expect that work submitted will also be returned via Google Classroom. The returned work may include corrections, suggestions, questions, and compliments. If there is an opportunity to re-submit work, that will be directly stated. Otherwise, returned work is yours to review.
Due dates will be posted on both Google Classroom and Skyward. In order to be successful, it is your responsibility to ensure that all of your assignments are complete, on time, and a reflection of your best effort. Work turned in incomplete or late will receive a reduced score. In extenuating circumstances, please communicate your need for flexibility.
