Families are encouraged to provide transportation and use the drive at the front of the campus to drop off and pick up students. Elementary buses will serve summer school students at neighborhood stops. A map of neighborhood stops and times will be posted online at www.abileneisd.org/departments/transportation prior to the first day of classes. Families should ensure students who are riding the bus are at the nearest neighborhood stop prior to the posted bus time. If transportation is needed, parents must sign up on the summer school registration form with the campus.
All meals are provided at no cost to all summer school students.
Students in Grades 1-8 who do not meet district promotion criteria must successfully complete the entire summer school program to be considered for promotion to the next grade. Please remember that the summer school curriculum for promotion is presented at an extremely intense pace in order to cover the state-required Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in a limited time period. ALL students enrolled in summer school courses for promotion will be expected to master at least 70% of the material presented.
Students in Grades 1-5 whose annual course average was less than 60 must successfully complete summer school and complete a locally-developed grade level exam to be considered for promotion.
Grades 3-8
Any student who does not score approaches or higher on a STAAR test in Grades 3-5 is required by the State of Texas to complete 15-30 hours of accelerated instruction for up to two (2) subject areas in which the student was not successful. Summer school completion will count toward the required hours.
FOR PROMOTION IN GRADES 1-8
In order to meet the 90% attendance requirement, any student with more than two absences per course will not receive summer school credit.
Because of the short length of class sessions and academic intensity of summer school, prompt and consistent attendance is required. Under the discipline management system of summer school, students who are persistently tardy to class may be dropped from attendance at summer school. Five tardies of fewer than 10 minutes each shall count as one absence. Arrival after 9 am will be considered an absence.
Grades 1-5
All students attending summer school sessions in AISD schools will be subject to the dress code as well as the disciplinary policies of AISD. Students will be subject to removal from the summer school program if referred to school administration more than twice.
Students who are dropped for disciplinary reasons from enrollment in summer school or who have been dropped because of excessive tardies or absences will NOT be refunded any tuition or fee. Refunds cannot be made after the third day of classes. All requests must be approved by the administration.
