Teacher Leaders (TLs) will be the primary TIP liaison between each school's team of teachers, the school’s Principal, and the IT Department. Responsibilities may include assisting the progress of their school’s TIP team. The TIP budget for Professional Development includes TLs release time to complete TIP related duties. The TL role may be shared with other teachers. TLs will participate in approximately eight days of TIP professional development utilizing “train the trainer” model.
Innovative Professional Development. TIP 20/20’s innovative (PD) professional development empowers teachers, as individuals, to address their own diverse technology needs and interests through a wide selection of innovative PD formats and workshops.
1. District TIP KickOffs
A full day of training is provided for each school’s TIP 20/20 team and principal. TIP Kickoffs ensure that each school starts the year with a solid plan including: understanding of program objectives, staff roles, and the school’s tech plan. Teams take time for planning and attend technology workshops of choice designed for school TIP teacher teams at the district office. Modeled after the CUE conference or the Google Apps for Education programs, team members may select various sessions to attend within Window 1 (September), Window 2 (October), and Window 3 (November).
2. Teacher Leader Training (District Office)
Each month, the IT Department hosts Teacher Leader specific training. This "train the trainer” model empowers the Teacher Leader to train their own site staff and, in addition, supports the TL's effort to gain Google Certification. TIP district training focuses on technology integration practices, digital workflow, Google Ecosystem, Chrome software, SAMR, Project Based Learning, and individual school goals.
3. On Site Training
The IT Department hired six long-term substitute teachers to serve as IT Technology Teachers. They rotate as a group among all ABC schools on a six-week cycle to release TIP teachers for collaboration time. Schools receive five days of collaboration time each year. IT Technology Teachers subsequently provide thousands of students special technology lessons based on the ISTE standards for students. The IT TIP Teacher or Teacher Leader will provide training to the released TIP teachers during collaboration time plus customize training for the participating audience.
4. Teacher Collaboration Time
Teacher Teams are encouraged to schedule regular collaboration time out of the classroom. Each school will receive five Professional Learning release days for their TIP team. The IT TIP Teacher substitutes will release a team of TIP Teachers to plan and work on effective technology integration activities, lessons, assessments, and individual training needs.
5. Tech Tours
The ABC 1:1 Tech Tours offer teachers a chance to visit other school TIP 20/20 programs within the District. Attendees meet at the District office, board a yellow bus, and visit three select schools ready to showcase their implementation of TIP 20/20. The tours provide live 1:1 classroom demonstrations by teachers working with students for the visiting teachers. More information on dates coming soon!
6. Technology Symposium
ABC Technology Symposium is an annual celebration and culminating showcase of ABC’s TIP 20/20 teachers’ expertise. The event is sponsored by the District and the teachers’ and classified unions. This year’s May 2018 event hosted over 200 ABC teachers and offered 28 unique sessions.
